Gucci Gone Genius. This military inspired jacket reminds me of Napoleon Bonaparte and the fashion influenced by the Bonaparte’s regime during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, which overshadowed our own war of 1812. A man who made white pants and short navy velvet cropped jackets fashionable and admired, he and his family were still revered and admired once in exile. Napoleon and his retinue on way to exile in St. Helena stopped and anchored by the Torre Abbey Estate, Devon on the English Riviera, and received fruits from the abbey walls. A few years later, Joseph Bonaparte, in exile, came to Philadelphia, where there were no rooms left in the hotel, so Henry Clay offered his. He became friends with my family members of the time, and built Point Breeze in Bordentown along the Delaware River. A grand estate, along with others such as Wyndlawn, the Smith family home burned down. Andalusia, the Biddle family estate remains and was the home used in The Philadelphia Story. Bonaparte’s descendants remained in the U.S. and were still friends with my family of the time – my 2nd great grandmother Lucy Pancoast Miller-nee Ridgway. Her brother-in-law Dr. Arthur Donaldson Smith and Charles Bonaparte were both very close to Teddy Roosevelt and what most people do not know is the that the great-nephew of of Napoleon was the founder of the Bureau of Investigation which became the FBI. He also fought for racial equity as one of the founders and president of The National Civic League. The Bonaparte’s style has influenced countless fashion houses in various interpretations. Gucci got it right-Kimono print silk interior with Tiger motif, gold metal embroidery, this one looks better than the others I have seen. As seen on Kate Mara. Similar to the portrait of Napoleon by Francois Gerard. Italian size 38. Made in Italy.
